COMMON ANTS

Can be found in and around your property

PHARAOH ANTS

Pharaoh Ants Pharaoh ants have light yellow bodies with black and red markings, they are very tiny measuring at about 2mm long. Pharaoh ants are able to survive all year long in artificially heated environments (such as your home). They can be a real nuisance when they take up residence as they will get into your food and can multiply very quickly; building nests in your walls, baseboards, and cupboards. Pharaoh ants will scatter if toxic substances are used to try and kill them. This can cause “budding” where workers will grab the queens and larva to escape. This creates multiple problems as they will divide and create new colonies making it incredibly challenging to get rid of them.  They are usually found in apartment or condo buildings.

CARPENTER ANTS

Carpenter ants can cause significant damage to your home as they burrow through the wood to create their nests. When an infestation is severe, you will notice piles of wood shavings under wooden items (for example. wooden window ledges or baseboards). Carpenter ant infestations should be treated immediately by a professional before it gets out of hand and they develop satellite nests.

PAVEMENT ANTS

Pavement ants are capable of carrying disease and germs, potentially contaminating both human and pet foods within your home. They typically nest in cracks on driveways, sidewalks and building foundations. They cause shifting in your brick work, unstable patio stones and stone steps. Activity can be noticed by mounds of dirt on paved surfaces.

LITTLE BLACK ANTS

Little black ant swarms are common from June to August, during which time they forage in trails and are frequently seen along sidewalks. These small ants feed on grease, oil, meats, fruits, and vegetables materials such as corn meal and sweets. The workers also feed on other insects, honeydew and plant secretions.  They are obviously an unpleasant sight and may damage food used for human consumption.
